Obstetrical RNs must work well with women, enjoy babies, and cope with patients' families during high-pressure situations that may occur during the delivery of a child. The nurses must be responsive to both the patient and the doctor while keeping track of the unborn baby's welfare, and must be able to handle the unexpected, including life-threatening emergencies such as pre-eclampsia, hemorrhage and preterm delivery.
